Saudi German Hospital Aseer accredited stroke pathway saves patient’s life

10 April 2025- In an extraordinary display of medical excellence, Saudi German Hospital (SGH) Aseer successfully implemented its accredited stroke response pathway, facilitating the rapid and coordinated treatment of a 65-year-old male stroke patient. A mechanical thrombectomy was performed within 3 hours and 30 minutes of symptom onset, ensuring an optimal patient outcome. This successful medical procedure highlights SGH Aseer’s leadership in emergency neurological care, reinforcing trust and showcasing the hospital’s commitment to saving lives through advanced stroke treatment protocols.
The mechanical thrombectomy was conducted by a multidisciplinary team comprising specialists from the ER, Neurology, Radiology, Anesthesia, ICU, and Neurosurgery. The hospital also expresses its gratitude to the Red Crescent for the timely transportation of the patient, who was experiencing left-sided weakness and slurred speech. He had a FAST-ED score of 5 and a medical history of hypertension.
However, since the patient arrived at the hospital within 15 minutes of symptom onset, the stroke pathway could be activated immediately. The hospital’s streamlined stroke protocol enabled rapid treatment completion, minimising the risk of severe disability. Moreover, SGH Aseer’s stroke team activated the stroke pathway upon the patient’s arrival, ensuring prompt assessment and treatment.
Makarem Sobhi Batterjee, Vice Chairman of SGH, said: “Immediate medical intervention and the successful completion of life-saving surgery demonstrate our exceptional expertise in emergency stroke care. Our accredited stroke response pathway is a revolutionary method for saving lives and preserving quality of life. Bolstered by this remarkable success, we remain steadfast in our efforts to elevate the benchmarks of excellence in neurological emergency care across Saudi Arabia and beyond.”
The achievement, while demonstrating SGH’s commitment to patient safety, also highlights the efficiency of its accredited stroke response system, reflecting its ethos of "Caring like Family." It reaffirms SGH’s dedication to providing best-in-class emergency neurological care, ensuring precision, speed, and world-class medical expertise. The hospital’s expertise, teamwork, and use of cutting-edge medical protocols facilitate life-saving care while securing optimal patient outcomes.
