World Green Economy Summit to provide youth with platform for innovative ideas on sustainable economic growth
Dubai, UAE, 27 September 2021: Recognising the importance of youth engagement, the World Green Economy Summit (WGES), from 6-7 October 2021 in Dubai, will enable its young participants to join high-level discussions with heads of states, experts and thought leaders. The summit will provide young people with a platform to communicate their ideas, exchange experiences, and learn about best global practices in the green economy and climate change mitigation. The event also aims to deepen their understanding of future challenges and present their proposals on sustainable economic development.
In cooperation with the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and the United Nations Development Programme, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO) together host WGES, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The international gathering opens doors for young Emiratis to interact and learn from their fellow youth in line with the country’s efforts to cultivate a generation educated in global green economy trends. These young leaders can showcase their most sustainable solutions aligned to the UAE’s future goals through this platform.
“Youth are the powerhouse of the future and the core human capital needed for our societies to flourish and prosper, accelerating socioeconomic development in the Arab world. Our core mandate focuses on empowering youth through every mean possible with an advanced skill set and the qualifications to cope with the current and rising dynamics of the labour market; fostering competitiveness and development in the MENA region. The WGES is a key supporter of the UAE’s efforts as well as the global efforts to adopt innovative green solutions, encouraging innovation to support sustainable development whilst balancing economic growth and environmental sustainability. The UAE’s wise leadership consciously strives to turn challenges into opportunities, creating unprecedented change in the Arab world. We believe the WGES is vital platform, playing a critical role in supporting our efforts to enhance the role of young entrepreneurs by improving their capabilities to fast-track green growth worldwide,” said HE Shamma bint Suhail bin Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai and Chairman of WGES, said that the event will complement the vision of the country’s wise leadership to enrich the life of the people, instil a culture of sustainability, and enable the youth to continue the UAE’s development process to achieve its goals. The UAE Centennial 2071 and the National Youth Strategy have been put in place to ensure that the future generation can skillfully lead the nation and become pioneering models to fulfil the country’s ambitious strategies, putting them on par with their counterparts globally.
“WGES is aligned with the country’s pioneering efforts to empower the youth by investing in their skills and directing their energies towards national development projects across multiple fields. It will equip them to overcome obstacles, keep pace with rapid global changes and apply their innovation to establish a stronger national economy. In response to the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, we will strengthen our youth’s role in the country’s development and raise its global competitiveness. This is vital to the UAE’s advanced preparations for the next 50 years. Our youth are the UAE’s future leaders and the cornerstone of our sustainable development process, and we must harness their knowledge, skills and passion to shape and build a sustainable future for the country and position Dubai as the global centre for clean energy and green economy,” added Al Tayer.
